通訳の質について

日本の企業では、FDA査察時等に通訳を入れるのが通例である。
通訳を介した場合、良い面、悪い面がある。

  1. 通訳派遣会社が通訳者の実力を把握していない上に、仕事により、どの程度の力量が要求されているのかを理解していない。
  2. 通訳派遣会社によっては、自社のマージンを優先して、実力とは関係なく通訳料の安い人達を使う。
  3. 以前は通訳派遣会社に登録するには、優秀な先輩の推薦がほぼ必須だったが、最近では通訳者本人の自己申告やアピールにより、簡単に登録できてしまう。

力量不足の通訳者による悪影響は、査察にのみに起こっている訳ではなく、様々な会議でも見られる。
たとえば、機構相談（薬事戦略相談や治験デザイン相談）で、通訳者が未熟なために、会議が成立せず、やり直しになるという事態も発生している。

通訳者はいわば頸動脈のようなものである。こちらの主張が正しく伝わらなければ査察官は納得してくれない。逆も真である。
ミス訳で誤解を与えてしまった場合、それを挽回することは至難の業である。

FDA査察等で安心して通訳を任せることができる通訳者は数が限られている。
事前の入念な査察準備と並行して優秀な通訳者の確保も重要といえる。
